Outreach Campaign to promote the services of the 24/7 Hotline

In August 2024 we launched our third marketing campaign to promote the services of the San Francisco Bay Area 24/7 Hotline for survivors and community. As part of this campaign, the MUNI has been displaying the hotline phone number and image on busses' exterior and interior. Help us promote the hotline among communities and professionals across the Bay Area! 

UNODC Global Report on Human Trafficking:
25% increase of identified victims and more children being exploited

Child trafficking, trafficking for forced labour and forced criminality are rising as poverty, conflict, and climate change leave more people vulnerable to exploitation, according to the 2024 Global Report on Trafficking in Persons published by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
The Report presents a global picture of the patterns and flows of trafficking and regional analyses in the aftermath of the global COVID-19 pandemic. The 2024 edition covers 156 countries from all regions and subregions of the world, registering the best country coverage for the report since its first edition in 2009. The Report also features a chapter dedicated to Africa.

2024 Trafficking in Persons (TIP) Report 
US Department of State

Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken 
released the 
2024 Trafficking in Persons Report (TIP Report) on Monday, June 24 with Cindy Dyer, Ambassador-at-Large to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons. Ambassador Dyer briefed FPC journalists on the report, which represents the world’s most comprehensive resource of anti-trafficking efforts around the globe. The Report is mandated by the Trafficking Victims Protection Act and exemplifies the United States’ longstanding bipartisan commitment to combating human trafficking. This year’s Report, the 24th edition, includes narratives for 188 countries and territories, including the United States. The Report also documents several emerging global trends including the continual growth of forced labor in online scam operations.

​Commercial Sexual Exploitation-Identification Tool (CSE-IT) training

WestCoast Children’s Clinic is excited to offer free Commercial Sexual Exploitation-Identification Tool (CSE-IT) training to any organization serving Bay Area youth. Sponsored by the SF Bay Area SOL Collaborative, a limited number of training slots are available. WestCoast Children’s Clinic research shows:
1 in 10 vulnerable youth show clear signs of exploitation.
75% of youth experience exploitation for 2 or more years before providers intervene.
75% of youth do not disclose exploitation.
 
Start screening at your organization! We have three versions of the CSE-IT and offer specialized training for child welfare hotline, healthcare, and education settings. Training can be accessed monthly via our self-paced platform, or live on zoom on December 7th, January 23rd, and more!

Advanced CSEC Caregiver Training
WestCoast Children’s Clinic

This 16-hour training series provides a comprehensive curriculum for caregivers to recognize and respond to youth that are commercially sexually exploited. You will also get the chance to connect with survivors with lived experience and other caregivers going through similar challenges. Any caregiver based in California is welcome to join. Caregivers include parents, foster parents, relatives, friends of the family, providers in a caregiver role, and more!

CSEC 102: Advanced Curriculum
WestCoast Children’s Clinic

In this 16-hour training, we will build on the skills and concepts learned in CSEC 101, including but not limited to: an exploration of common dynamics when serving and supporting commercially exploited youth and how these dynamics impact the work and the providers. Any provider based in California is welcome to join. Providers can be from any type of youth service organization (child welfare, probation, law enforcement, youth advocate, therapist, etc)

40-hour Comprehensive Anti-Human Trafficking Advocate Training 
San Francisco SafeHouse

SafeHouse is once again offering its 40-hour comprehensive human trafficking advocate training in accordance with California Evidence Code 1038.2(b). This training does fulfill the training requirement for the Human Trafficking Caseworker Privilege; however participant must work for an organization that qualifies under 18294 of the California Welfare & Institutions Code to claim the privilege.
The training is conducted by SafeHouse staff along with guest facilitators from partner agencies in the city who support survivors. Training opportunities are offered to community members, partner agencies, and SafeHouse volunteers/interns. 
The training curriculum topics include but are not limited to:
  • History and Societal Attitudes Toward Human Trafficking
  • Peer Counseling Techniques
  • Civil and Criminal Law Related to Trafficking 
  • Resources (housing, public assistance, financial resources, etc.) for Trafficking Survivors
  • Privileged Communication

Schedule a Training with MISSSEY's Training Institute ​

Motivating, Inspiring, Supporting, Serving Sexually Exploited Youth (MISSSEY)

​Our training and workshops provide a broad overview of trafficking that includes a discussion of youth pathways and risk factors, prevention and how to support trafficked youth. Participants will come away with a deeper understanding of this complex issue.

After attending a training they will also be able to identify red flags, understand how to refer youth to support services and impact how their community addresses the sexual exploitation of youth.

Youth providers will receive guidance on how to engage youth in simple safety planning. Youth training and workshops are informed by the lived realities of the youth that we serve. All facilitators have developed, trauma- and healing-informed and strengths based approaches to engaging and supporting youth participants. 

Our trainings have reached more than 10,000 adults, youth, health, and mental health professionals, including staff of local and national public and nonprofit service agencies, the City of Oakland, and school districts in Oakland and West Contra Costa County.
The trainings cover: introduction to and defining of trafficking; pathways and intersections of risk factors; red flags and victim identification; survivor realities and experiences; societal realities, systemic issues, and demand; safety planning; stages of changeImpacts of complex trauma; best practices for intervention and response; advocacy and case management; strength-based youth leadership development; and cross-sector collaboration and coalition building.

In March, we participated in the United Nation's Commission on the Status of Women 69 Annual Session and Parallel NGO Forum. In partnership with the International Alliance of Women, United Nations Association - USA - San Francisco Chapter and National Council of Jewish Women San Francisco, we presented a virtual panel exploring local and international programs providing services and referral assistance to women and girls survivors of human trafficking. We also discussed successful collaboration models of law enforcement and government agencies with educational institutions, socially responsible businesses and faith-based organizations. Advocates from across the world joined us to share experiences and learn about our programs. At the closing of the 16th Annual Awareness Campaign of SFCAHT, we gathered to honor the winners of the 2025 Teen Poster, Writing & Music Contest and learn about youth achievements in human trafficking prevention. Students from across the Bay Area performed and shared experiences in anti-trafficking advocacy. The SFCAHT Student Alliance presented about its initiatives and achievements. Attendees learned how to join the movement locally and help create awareness of human trafficking in their own schools and communities.

On November 7th, we gathered for a for a full day conference with law enforcement agencies, businesses, survivors, service providers, and volunteers to explore innovative strategies and programs in prosecuting and preventing human trafficking and protecting the survivors. We learned about effective partnerships in the field and shared experience and networks with other professionals and volunteers fighting human trafficking. Featured speakers included:
