The Center for Gender & Refugee Studies (CGRS) protects the fundamental human rights of women, children, LGBT, and other refugees who flee persecution. We provide cutting edge legal expertise and training, policy development, research, and in-country fact-finding and use international human rights instruments to address the root causes of persecution.

Advocacy



• CGRS provides free technical assistance, training, and resources to attorneys and non-governmental organizations that represent women, children, and LGBT asylum seekers, including victims of human trafficking who seek asylum on that basis
• CGRS monitors decisions to track trends (such as denials of asylum to victims of trafficking) to inform its advocacy work
• CGRS shapes gender asylum law through appellate advocacy, and works with local and national partners to influence the development of national policy
• CGRS engages in broad public education through its media work
