Ruby’s Place is a non-profit agency in Hayward, California that has provided shelter and supportive services since 1972 for families and individuals who experience domestic violence,  and more recently human trafficking. Ruby’s Place was one of the first shelters for families and individuals in the Bay Area established by community volunteers.

Ruby’s Place is a comprehensive strength and empowerment-based program aimed at providing much more than just shelter to its clients, Ruby’s Place offers the following services:
Crisis Services:
  • 24-HOUR CRISIS HOTLINE someone is available 24 hours per day to talk to you. Call (888) 339-SAFE
  • Emergency shelter for families and individuals.
  • 24 hour emergency pick-up for incoming clients from a public location.
  • 24 hour over the phone crisis intervention, counseling and safety planning.
Case Management Services:
  • Peer Counseling – Counseling for all Shelter clients regardless of the issues, counseling in all languages.
  • Case Planning – Individualized and comprehensive plans for each adult and child including employment, housing, medical, legal, educational, and advocacy.
  • Employment Assistance – Includes resume preparation, reference letters, transportation to and from interviews, interview readiness and coaching, and dress for success clothing.
  • Educational Counseling and Assistance in Enrollment – Educational needs assessment, school and program research and readiness counseling, assistance in application for enrollment and counseling for class enrollment.
  • Budget and Finance Counseling – Customized plans for financial independence and security.
  • Housing Search and Application Assistance– Open subsidized housing notices, preparation of applications, assistance is obtaining all required documents.
  • Housing Follow-up and Placement Assistance – Follow up on all housing applications by mail and phone, application to outside agencies for deposit and furniture costs, provide client with basic household items.
  • Referrals and Application Assistance to Linkages Transitional Housing when Applicable – Individual case management, application preparation, and advocacy for placement in HUD linkages transitional housing program.
  • Court Accommodation – Accompaniment to court hearings and advocacy when needed.
  • Restraining Order Services – Restraining order preparation, accompaniment to submit, process server when applicable, and pick-up of approved/denied restraining order
  • Cal Works, GA, WIC, Food Stamp and other Social Service Assistance and Advocacy – Application preparation, accompaniment to social services and advocacy for any delay in services.
  • Immigration Support and Counseling – Immigration needs assessment, preparation of paperwork for U-Visa and T-Visa and referral to an immigration attorney.
  • Transportation -To appointments, interviews, child care, court and to off-site services.
Therapeutic Services:
  • Domestic Violence Counseling, Support, and Human Trafficking – Weekly group counseling.
  • Victims of Crime advocacy and application assistance.
